4. Suffering: "My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?" If Jesus who was God in the flesh suffered and cried out, how much more will it be for us in our life journeys. These words became real for me when I visited a patient during my Clinical Pastoral Education training. She had just in her older years become a lawyer and now she was being told that the cancer in her throat would leave her without a voice. I remember that day, when I sat to visit with her, we sat in silence for a long time and all I kept hearing in my spirit was: My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? Have you been there? Think of that day and how God brought you through... “Do not look forward in fear to the changes of life ; rather look to them with full hope as they arise. God, whose very own you are, will deliver you from out of them. God has kept you hitherto, and God will lead you safely through all things; and when you cannot stand it, God will bury you in His arms. Do not fear what may happen tomorrow; the same everlasting God who cares for you today will take care of you then and every day. God will either shield you from suffering or will give you unfailing strength to bear it. Be at peace and put aside all anxious thoughts and imaginations.” (St. Francis quote taken from FBC of West Hartford Weekly E-News) May the God of your life continue to be the source of your strength & encouragement… Until next time, Pastor
