What is the 30 Hour Famine?  The 30 Hour Famine puts hands and feet to your desire to help students live a life of Christian compassion. It will unite youth group members like never before. And the impact will last long after the Famine event is over. It can be the spark that fires up a person for a lifetime of reaching out to neighbors in need, whether they're across the street - or around the globe.

Friday : Our last supper was eaten from 8pm – 9pm. We broke up into "tribes" and did a bunch of team building activities that increased our awareness of the struggles of children less fortunate than ourselves. We held a youth-led prayer and testimony service that included each of us giving up a personal "offering" to the LORD (symbolically placing in the offering plate whatever was standing between us and a closer relationship with God). The service also included a powerful prayer time at the altar. We hunkered down (yeah, it’s old school talk) at the church overnight….some of us even got some sleep.

Saturday: We tidied things up at the church and headed out to our community service projects. The gentlemen did neighborhood clean up work with a crew from our local Fire Department while the ladies got things started at our car wash site. The fellas joined the car wash in the afternoon. There we raised over $450. After the car wash we drove around to the homes of teens so they could get clothes and love from parents.

We returned to the church and read the short letters of encouragement as well as the encouragement letters written by our adult prayer partners. That was a nice spiritual boost. We then played some games and team building activities. After more prayer the ladies and gentlemen went their separate ways (two separate houses).

Sunday : As normal, we broke our fast (30 hours plus) early Sunday morning. Some had cereal, some had chips, all had smiles upon their faces. In Sunday Service more contributions came in from Church members. Overall 13 teens and 3 adults completed the 30 hour fast. Some teens balanced work and the fast – having to be alone for a time and then return to us later.

We raised hunger awareness in our community as well as over $1,600 for World Vision’s hunger relief efforts. God is good, and His mercy endures forever!
